Cinque Terre (“The Five Lands”) includes FIVE small villages on the west coast of Italy, namely;
Monterosso al Mare

Cars aren’t allowed in that area.  The only transportation is either taking local trains or on ferries.

Train to Cinque Terre

From Rome to Cinque Terre: train connection
Take either a reserved Frecciabianca or a reserved Intercity train from Rome to La Spezia Centrale, from connect to an unreserved “regionale” train to your final destination within the Cinque Terre.

From Florence to Cinque Terre: train connection
The departure station in Florence is “Firenze S.M. Novelle” and the arrival station is “La Spezia Centrale” in La Spezia. From La Spezia Centrale to Riomaggiore is only 8-15 minutes (depending on the time of day) and 17-30 minutes all the way to Monterosso (17 min if express – non stop)
